Who Are Motability?
Motability is a registered charity which provides mobility solutions for disabled people and their families in the UK. It was set up on the initiative of the Government in 1977, to provide vehicles and powered wheelchairs to disabled people.
How Does The Motability Scheme Work?
The Motability Scheme offers disabled people who receive the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS) a brand new car every 3 years.

Do I Have To Have a Driving Licence?
Our vehicles can be adapted and tailored to the driving needs of a disabled person. However, you don’t have to be a driver to qualify for one of the Motability schemes. Non drivers who receive the mobility allowance can obtain a vehicle as a passenger and propose up to two other people as permitted drivers (such as family or carers). Applications can also be made on behalf of a child, aged three and over, in receipt of the allowance.

Can I Convert the Vehicle to Suit My Needs?
There are many adaptions available, some at no extra cost, and in most cases the original car’s controls and features can still be used, so your nominated drivers can still drive. However, it’s important to bear in mind that most driving controls require an automatic gearbox. Driving controls help with speed control, steering and signalling.
